Davidson Star D 17 tripod

I purchased a Davidson Star D 17 multi-cam tripod in an antique store today. It had the manual attached. This is the all black, metal one without a center post. It seems to be a good, sturdy tripod. I've been looking for a sturdy, non-plastic, reasonably priced tripod for some time and at $28, this one seemed just right.

Does anyone know the vintage of this tripod? The manual doesn't have a date on it, but it's pre-ZIP code.
