Add Fuel Guage to a K75 Standard?

I own a 1995 K75 Standard with the standard lack of guages. I would like to add a fuel guage to it. I have heard from some mechanicics that the fuel float /sender in the tank that triggers the low fuel indicator light is capable of driving a guage also. Is it possible to add a guage to the exsisting wiring harness? Is there a "secret" jack that a standard automotive guage be connected to that wil give a reasonably accurate reading? Is surgery on the wiring harness the only option? What would be the amperage (ma) for minimum and full deflection of the meter?

I have a Clymer's manual but it does not give me a clear picture of the plugs and jacks on the motorcycle.

There are open connections under the tank for BMW fuel & temp gauges that used to be an option. I used to have them on my K75S, if memory serves me right the fuel
gauge wire was yellow (like gas) and the temp was blue or red (cold-hot)

I'm moving this to the K-Brick area since you'll receive more attention if it's in the right section of the forum (where other K75 owners hang out..)

Please keep your hands and feet inside the car for your safety and protection, and HANG ON....

Now that it's in the right spot..

BMW used to sell a kit for exactly this purpose. It's possible some of the bike wrecking yards may have a gauge from a wreck.. or from an LT (which came with it.) The gauge has a pigtail on it that plugs right into the wiring harness.

You'll find all the bits you need at:

BMW has a fuel and temp gauge that clamps on the handle bars for the K75/100. The fuel gauge will fit the existing wiring harness. the temp gauge will need the sensor that replaces the coolant drain plug on the front of the engine.
