Mufflers

I replaced my stock mufflers when I bought my R80 in '01 with Keihans from Motobins. If I recall, ~ $300 US for the set. You can see them on my bike in the picture thread. Stainless, nice finish, bolted right up. The originals had rusted out.

+100 for Sito mufflers.

Have them on both the R100Rt and the R45. Installed them on lots of other bikes over the past few years. Quality mufflers that last a long time. Sounds very close to stock. Plus, they have a coating inside that helps to stop rust.

besides the small area that says sito on them the dead give away is the better than stock chrome plating,, everything else is perfect, recessed regions for brake lever and axel, great header to muffler clamps included, bolt on brackets same as stock(not a welded tab)

I have Sito mufflers on MAC headers. I would highly recommend Sito, quite the opposite for MAC. Sito's fit and finish are at least as good as OEM and MAC's (at least on the headers) are definitely much worse.

I love the cigar look on the toaster.

Addressing the OP question, the Emgo's I've seen are almost identical in appearance to the stock BMW /6 - /7 mufflers.
Mac's are definitely not.
Between the two, I'd go with the Emgo's if appearance is important.

I have the Emgo's. They fit fine, clear both type bags, did not seem to negatively impact tuning, etc.

I live in 15% humidity, so rot is much less a problem for me

Emgo & Mac

Emgo & Mac ÔÇô definitely "low bucks" options.
Maybe such a choice is necessary, but do not expect the longevity or quality of a good set.

Thank you for all the replies, but I just wanted to know from the experience of others, which would be a better choice,Emgo or MAC.i can get a used set of Emgo mufflers for $140,used MAC set for $130.Both claim like new condition. I did see that a new set of Mac mufflers were $230,Emgo $180.I wonder hoe each one sounds on the bike. This is just a low cost solutin for now. When I get some extra cash I plan on stainless.
George

From personal experience in the past, I have had both brands on different bikes. the EMGOs were a little louder and did not last as long as the MACs. The MACs were closer to original sound. Both rusted along the bottom and along the seams fairly quickly.

But, if you want to get by for only a short time and eventually go Stainless, I would go with whatever is cheapest and looks best at the moment.
