Update on hanging up modular helmets

GILLY

What, me worry?
I was thinking on hanging up modular helmets, had a post going about that topic:
http://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread.php?t=36580

After lots of looking around, I think I might keep a modular, probably have to replace my Synchro next year, because my proposal is a pricey one:
Thinking on a Schuberth C3.
Actually compared to list on a Multitec it might not be too bad. I'm not much on the world of high finances but seems a lot will hinge on the exchange rates.
The BEST I can find now will be right around $540 incl shipping from Germany.
Just sort of disgusted with Shoei, and my old BMW Schuberth was really nice.
I don't care about the DOT rating, I know this is a very safe helmet. I know I would be running an odd risk if I ride in states that are wise enough to require helmet use (WI isn't one of them, so it won't matter in my home state, where most of my riding is done).
Appreciate comments by anyone knowledgeable on watching exchange rates, also anyone else have C3?

Can't help with your cost/ currency decision, but here's some very recent additional information:

"Bottom-line": regardless of the fact that even this very recent comparison test recommends the Schuberth C3, the Shoe Multitec, and the Lazar Paname LX, the "best" helmet is, first, the one that fits YOUR head. If you order a C3 online, particularly from overseas, and it does not fit YOUR head, that's considerable additional hassle to return. A BMW Schuberth helmet may not fit your head in the same way a Schuberth C3. Or...you may have a very flexible head, and get lucky;)

Have seen reviews on webbikeworld.com:
http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/motorcycle-helmets.htm
They really like it.
The Shoei has to be older than I think, so I don't want to slam Shoei too much. It has never been as quiet as the System 2 BMW helmet that Schuberth made. In general I would feel I am getting a better quality product with a Schuberth and the C3 gets absolutely glowing reviews.
Webbikeworld does mention in many reviews the "shape" of head that the manufacturers seen to design for. I didn't have a problem with pressure points on either of these helmets. I would imagine I could eBay a C3 if I didn't like it and not lose too much money. Or return it.

Look at the Scorpion EXO 900. It has smooth lines and some really nice features and the price starts at $269.

HJC here:)

HJCs, CL Max just recently purchased 6 months ago. I wear a "3X" and almost nobody makes this size. I have been wearing Arai's, considered a top of the lineup in helmets, Yes? I found the HJC flipper, CL Max at a 3X size and gave it a try at 150$. Shocker in price!!! Now with 10000+ miles, its a keeper indeed and a ton LESS money spent for someting I thought one had to do to get a good helmet, spend lots of money. I won't go back to any 3-500$ helmets:), if I can help it. HJC also makes a few upgraders in the same flip helmet, for around 250$, with 2x as the max in size. I'm very happy to have mine.
