BMW TrinkPak Hydra

I took some quick pics of this hydration pack today as I was getting ready to head out for a rally. I found this neat hydration pack at a BMW Dealer and on a whim just bought it on the spot. In the past, I've been a fan of Camelbaks, but this one had a couple of cool features that were new to me.

The bag opens completely on one end and you can turn it inside out to really get it clean and dry it thoroughly. Those with Camelbaks will attest, it takes a lot of effort to get them clean and dry them out. I also liked the fact that you could disconnect the hose and the bladder would not empty out! If you were to route the hose through a jacket or something, this would make a lot of sense. Which is what they intended for this piece. It's made to go into a pocket of the Rally 2 Pro jacket. The inside is also coated with a very slippery feel almost like glass. I think that helps cut down crud starting to grow!

The bag is filled to the bulging point, but is very sturdy. I think I could sit on it and it wouldn't burst!

The hose port stops the water flow when the hose is detached. It locks on very securely and has not leaked on me yet.

The top closure is very secure. The blue plastic locks it in place. The top is folded over on itself and has interlocking groves which align the sides and lock onto the blue piece so it doesn't slide off.

Directions for how to clean. Very easy. Just reach inside and turn it inside out.

The drinking end is exposed. That could be a problem in very dusty environments. But it works very well. Just bite and pull slightly to open the shutoff and start the flow of water. You can do it easily with one hand. Flow is very good.

I've used this for about a year now with now problems. It sits in the bottom of my tankbag and the hose extends out. When I want a drink, just grab and go. It makes a nice source for water around the campsite when I'm parked for the night.

Thats pretty cool but how are you carrying that? I too use a camel back. I wish the Santiago jacket had a way to put a water bladder in it like the Rally Pro does.

I got a free hydration pack from Buell when I test rode the new (then) 1125R. Had no idea they were giving a gift with test rides, just wanted to see how the bike rode. Anyway, their version (not sure who makes it) works well, has reflective material on the back and I find I do drink more as I'm able to sip away rather than chug something at a fuel stop. Of course I have to use a restroom more often, but I'm sure that keeps my kidneys happy. Hadn't seen the BMW one, holding it in the tank bag rather than a backpack makes sense, easier to manage.

This bag was made to fit the Rally2Pro Jacket. I've got the older version which also included a pocket and hose ports, but unfortunately, it's the wrong size to hold this one. (Mine's long and skinny, but this bag is kinda shorter and fatter)

But I wasn't upset, I bought it on a whim and ended up with a very functional hydration pak. Honestly, I don't know if I'd want this much weight on my jacket, or the hump back it would give me!

I carry it in my tankbag. I've got a larger size BigMak and it fills the bottom almost completely. I throw a microfiber towel over it to soak up the condensation and then throw my junk in on top. It works very well. I can tilt the BigMak bag up on the platen (as I do when I add fuel) and that will get the last few drops out of the bag very nicely. The hose hangs out the side facing me and I just grab it to drink and store the end on one in one of the outside mesh pockets on the BigMak.

Huh. Well maybe I should get a slightly smaller water badder and throw that in my tank bag. My camelback is 70oz and its so wide at the bottom it encroaches on my passengers space. I used it all around Nova Scotia though by myself and I liked having it. I need to decide on something before I go for my SS1000.
