radar detector?

I use the Escort 8500 on my bike and in my Carrera. Works just fine on the bike. I run it through a MixIt2 into my helmet speakers.

radar Detector

I just purchased a Whistler Cruisader. The head unit is a round 21/4 inch and can be placed in the dash of my R1150RT where the speakers would sit - nice and out of the way of prying eyes. You could also pod mount it easliy on an accessory dash shelf , like from BMR Products. It receives all bands and has a rear remote hideaway antenna to pick up radar/lazer coming at you from behind. Now that's slick stuff.

The unit came with a LED remote alarm unit ($45) that mounts in your helmet to visually notify you of a scan. It was free with the "special" purchase price . The nice thing too is that the whole setup is cheap right now at under $190.00. It comes with a very full mounting accessories kit to cover all type of mounting issues. I was and am very impressed with "the bang for the buck" aspect.

check it out at the Whistler site and buy it here:.

The shipping out of Buyradardectectors.com is gun slinger quick. I'm in Connecticut and I had it in 2 days via UPS

Here's what I was told... South Carolina has a totaly new Radar system that you can't detect with currant Radar Detectors. I'd like to hear from others, that may know about this new System in S.C.

I don't know about S.C., but I have noticed that the newest version of the "You are going XX miles per hour" signs --- the kind that are small, permanently mounted on a pole, typically around school zones --- do not trigger my V1. I'm curious as to what method those signs use or if it is just that they are on a frequency band not covered by the V1. :dunno

Interesting

My Escort 8500 does pick those up. Maybe the V1 is smarter and knows what they are? Just wondering, have no idea.

I have no idea what the Valentine offers above and beyond the Escort. I'm perfectly satisfied with the performance of the Escorts, and see no reason to not recommend them to my fellow riders.

The V1 has directional arrows that tell you where the signal is coming from. Sometimes that matters. In terms of alerts, however, I had an 8500 and a V1 side by side on the dash of the cage for a year and neither had a clear advantage. The V1 was a lot more annoying though.

...use the Escort in...my Carrera...tonyfr

You gotta have one in a Carrera:

Beauty! (S, Turbo S, GT?)

But it's not Arena Red. :)

We need to revive the "What's in your garage?" thread. I know there's more good stuff owned by our members.

I still seem to be picking up the State troopers and the Beaufort County radar, on my Crusader. The Park Rangers on the Blue Ridge have a new gun that sends out a single beep, so a warning device doesn't help here.

Thanks for the reply, I can pick up County and City Cops, just not the State boys...

Wow- thanks for all the feedback! I had forgotten I even asked about this! I think I'll look around. Thanks for the names/ models, etc. I really dont't want to deal with earphones. I guess I was just expecting a little red light or something!

Here in Indiana(some other states) you have to see them first them, due to INSTANT ON. I usually see the LEO seconds before the V1 goes off. You just can't be put your total trust in your radar detector.

You have to use your eyes and your ability to read the traffic & roads around you. I know some of us use Bear / Chicken meat, let someone else (another car, truck) leads us down the road to take the hit. I have done this and many of times the trooper would not shoot the first vehicle but shoot me the second vehicle. This ability has save me from INSTANT ON tickets many times.

I have three Escort 8500s - one for the truck, one for the car, and one on the bike.

Collectively they've saved me thousands in tickets and higher insurance rates. I can "see" speed traps miles in advance. My only vulnerability is when a cop cage/bike comes up from behind or law enforcement is using an aircraft to time vehicles through the trap.

I have two Escort 8500s. One for the bikes, one for the cages.

I have not been stopped since I started using them. Luck maybe?

I did not go with a Valentine since I did not want to be looking down at the radar detector when it went off. Where the radar was coming from was not as important to me as knowing there was one in the area.

As to laser. I have only had two alerts but each time It was too late for me to slow down. I was only going 5mph over both times. Not fast enough to get stopped those times.

Never have;

Never have owned a detector, but the conversation here has me wondering and I did get stopped at 20 over, just last week in N.Mexico on my GSA1200. I did fast talk my way out of a ticket, so I got lucky:). I do not like ear plugs either and wonder??? Do these detectors have sirens/alarms "built in", that can be heard, or just warning lights, etc, or what do they do??? All these years and now 56 and riding fast as ever. Just been lucky, with a clean record. Randy:D

I have an Escort...added the HARD wireless heads up display that puts the light right by your eyeline in helmet. Was cheaper a few years back. Works great in daylight, sometimes at night and you are at a stoplight and the LEO is parked near you,it can be a tad annoying going on for what seems like forever. They also have a screachingly loud horn...but that could get you scolded if it went off at the wrong time. I have heard a buddies riding ahead of me! This sites' owner claims to be an ex-LEO . I love the wireless feature, just turn the helmet switch off when not in use or remove the unit easily also.

The Texas DPS Troopers were playing with a mirror set up on a curve the other day...one fellow holding the reflector and another shooting his radar/laser at it around the bend...there seemed to be a class going on as there were 7 cruisers.
Sneaky!
They have gone to some instant ons...the others come on way before you see them.

N.Mexico Troopers:)

They were very professional and nice guys and had me square at 20 over! A long boring 55 zone along the Mexican Border, Hwy 9. For a hundred miles, all I saw were Border Patrol guys, who usually have no interest in your speed. My luck ran out as I met two N.M.Troopers 20 miles from El Paso. He was ready to issue the ticket, and I pleaded my case as a licensed "HazMat Trucker" on vacation and a clean record. My license is "sensative" to getting tickets:). He knew from his patrol car computer check, that I was clean in the past record department! Anyhow, I got a break from a couple nice guys in N.Mexico. They even shared one of their favorite eating establishments, as I was getting hungry. They told me where to go:). Randy:usa
