Install Hella FF50 lights on my R1100RT

Here is a brief explanation about how I installed Hella FF50 Lights on my R1100RT.

The install requires the always infamous tupperware removal on both sides, dash removal (also windshield), and front fender.
I made a trip to my local Lowes and picked up some L brackets of proper size to caliper mount them.

I then cut them to the lenght I needed and mounted the lights to them and attached the brackets to the lower caliper bolt on each side using a hand made spacer and bolts from my parts bin but could be bought at Lowes.

Then it was all wiring down the left side and mounting the switch in the dash per the Hella instructions. I mounted the Hella relay inside the fuse box and ran the cables out through a small grove cut in the back of the box at the top. Then ran the + and - wires to the battery and the green and blue wires up to the front of the steering head.

Then the green goes to the switch and out of the switch to the yellow (low beam ) wire in the headlight. The blue continues down to both lights and the black wires from the lights go back up the fork legs to ground.

Now all wire is taped up and ty-wrapped to the appropriate parts and tested.

Now back on goes the dash , windshield and tupperware.
When darkness arrives you need to align the lights per the Hella instructions and all will be bright!

After a week or two I started to have an unwanted turning off of the lights while in transit. and after a day of total frustration , the problem turned out to NOT be in the relay but rather the provided switch. It has now been replaced with one from Auto Zone that has a long handle and green LED in it and now stays on WOOOO WHOOOO.

They now work great for me.
    Thanks , Mike

They look good. You can never have enough light on those lonely dark roads. good job.
The thing about traveling is, you never want it to end and you can't wait to get home.
I answer to Roy, Chief, or Sarg.

looks good and affordable. Are they sold as a set?/kit
I have Hella 550's on my Zuki and they GIVE light, so I know about Hella.

could you give the dimensions of the bracket?
how secure is the bracket from moving/rotating?
    are they H3 bilbs?

If I wanted the have them on with the headlight what is needed?
will it stress that curciut if I do?

The bike is outside in the cold under its cover but it is about an inch wide and then I cut it to fit with a hack saw and used a grinder to finish the ends.

how secure is the bracket from moving/rotating?
That was a concern of mine but it stays put well (no problems).

    are they H3 bilbs?

    Thanks!
At thier price mark they will most likely be my pick.
Still, about how far does the bracket stick them out?
That way I can look for the right one.

Best to get the lights , then take one with you to get the L bracket . The inside of the light sticks out a couple of inches from the fork tube as in the frontal picture above.
