Headlight Protection Tape-question

New member
I bought some very thick sticky tape for my K1200RS which was cut to fit when I bought it. I bought it off EBay and didn't save the name or paperwork. Now I'm interested in buying some more for my new R1100SA.
It is not the AirFlow or other 'spot' tape stick on protector this is a thick 1/16" at least total stick on tape.
Any help would be appreciated. I already bought some invisiguard tape made for the R1100S but it is too thin and not what I want.

I just put this on my RT last night. It takes patience and a heat gun but it does appear to work fine. I show some glue under the cover after one day. Does that eventually fade away?

I did not see any glue at any time. My application error was not using quite enough alcohol/water... it dried and stuck before it was in the perfect position. It wasn't off enough to worry about, though.

If you look close you'll see that the piece on the large portion of the headlight is off by about 1/16 of an inch, rotated counter clockwise as you look at the image. The smaller section for the high beam went on fine -- I'd learned my lesson and applied copious amounts of alcohol/water to both headlight and fingers before applying the film.

Was it one pre-cut piece for the RT? How long did it take you to install? Any special tips you'd recommend?

Application

TexanRT,

Make sure the headlight is very clean. I used alcohol wipes several times. The instructions call for a 3:1 mix of water to alcohol and to spray the glued surface and your fingers. I pulled the cover off a few times and repositioned. A heat gun is much better than a hair drier if you have one. You can acutally use the heat to fix some areas but you need it to work the plastic over the RT headlight. The cover comes pre-cut and is almost a perfect fit. I think the best advice is to get good positioning first to avoid pulled off the cover too many times. I used the squeege and my hand to chase the water out. Hopefully some of the glue marks will fad with time. The covers for the turn signals are included and they are a snap to install. I'd plan on 1+ hours and a lot of patience but I prefer the clean look vs. having round velcro dots around the edge. Good luck.

Thanks!

I've been looking at that expansive headlight and wondering just how long I can ride around Houston before something hits it. Thank you for that explanation! :thumb
