2004 R1100SA GPS & Radar detector mounting questions?

Hi all,
I know that Techmount makes great 'stem' mounts that screw into the empty mirror hole but I want a more centered set up. Techmount has three types of mounts, one that fits into the fork ends, one that fits 'around' and one that fits 'in' the center hole on the triple tree.
My question is what has been used and what are the pros and cons? I mentioned techmount simply because their product looks like what I want but I'm sure there are other mounts to be considered. One criterion is that I'm able to see all the gauges etc. I want the more center position for the GPS and Radar detector to keep them out of the rainstream.
Any help would be appreciated. Please email me offline because I do not check the boards often. CaptRehkopf@comcast.net

I went with a RAM kit from http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?item=RAM-BA. give them a call, they will help you get what you want.
mine threads into the fork cap on the triple tree. slightly blocks the right side turn signal indicator, but that's the only onstruction.
this is the base unit mounted on the right side (more in my line of sight for the detector), with the detector and mounting arm removed

here's a side shot of it in operation
