The Trans Adventure trail goes by Big Falls County Park. You leave the trail for about two miles then make a U-turn back to the trail

I talked to the car owner's wife and was told her husband owned this car since they dated in High School. The car was parked in front of an old school house which also was in need of restoration.

The wife wished they had cash to restore the old girl.

The husband did not seem to be very happy with me taking interest in his old girl, so after a few minutes I resumed on the TWT:bolt

The top mechanically retracted into the trunk, and was totally hidden from sight

Jim, thanks for a great report. The photos are terrific. I am looking forward to riding the Trans-Wisconsin some time soon.

Chad has done us a great service in putting this route together. Some of it will be familiar to anyone who has been dual-sport riding for a few years at events like Enduraid, or who has gone on the excellent rides led by Chad or Ernie Bell at GR3. But a lot of it is new to me.

Your words and pics are 1st rate. You should write a book.

I thought I knew Wisconsin pretty well. You're showing me the B-side of everything I thought I knew about the state. Thanks!

Love the roads, love your bikes, love your photos!..... but I gotta know, how many times has the dog puked in your tankbag???

Jim ..

I told the riders in the Wisconsin Club (at the meeting last night) to check this thread out. A few of them are already talking about doing this ride.

You should send something to the newsletter, or come to the April meeting. There were lots of questions ....

:D

Just north of Thorp, you will travel past the 45 Degree Latitude,
but unlike many other places in Wisconsin there is no signage. :dunno
45 degrees north latitude and 90 degrees west longitude
is just 30 miles east of TW*T
at Poniatowski, Wisconsin.

;)

Exact Center of the Northern Half of the Western Hemisphere
A hemisphere halfway point occurs at only four spots on Earth.
Two are under water,
one is in northwestern China,
and the other one is just 30 miles east of the Trans-Wisconsin Trail

The southern start of the Perkinstown Trail
is a few miles from Medford, Wisconsin

—Tombstone Pizza
What do you want on your tombstone?
When the Simek brothers, owners of the Tombstone Tap in Medford, Wisconsin,
started making pizzas in 1962,
they were simply looking for a gimmick to pull customers into their tavern
located across from the cemetery.

By 1984 Tombstone was one of the three largest frozen pizza manufacturers in the country

Tombstone was acquired by Kraft General Foods in 1986.

I loved the pizza before 1986 pepspizza.com

Medford is the County Seat of Taylor Wisconsin

taken from the Taylor County website,
and describes the Perkinstown Trail
"Taylor County's landscape was gouged-out from ancient rock and soil by the Chippewa Lobe of the Wisconsin glacier and filled with the soil and debris carried by its rushing meltwaters. While the earth's crust has risen 160 feet since its passing, the topography left by the glacier remains. Rivers rush along trenches carved by the ice, conical hills called kames formed by soil deposited by meltwater streams dot the countryside, rolling hills scoured from once towering mountains surround kettle lakes now filled with crystal clear waters."
