    Question K1200 LT-E Speedo/Odo error

    Hi Folks,

I have a 2003 K1200LT-E. It's my first BMW. I've noticed there seems to be quite a bit of error on the speedo/odo, about a consistent 7MPH across the range whn compared to the GPS. The dealer says this is an "intrinsic trait of the brand". Is this accurate or fabrication?

Also, gear box seems a bit "clunky" and I've hit neutral on the upshift from 1st to 2nd several times, although the upshift issue appears to be diminishing. I figured it needed to run in a little.

Fantastic bike, though. I'm coming into this bike from 24 years of riding sportbikes and the handling is superb for a tourer.

    Best Regards,
    Bob Lilley

He's right. BMW speedos are almost always off, generally they read a little fast compared to real speed.

How many miles on the LT? BMW transmissions like a firm foot, but they get better with age.

Some bikes. Some with motors, some without.

    Check out www.bmwlt.net

We have many threads that describe the Speedo error in great detail, including a good fix to make it just as accurate as the Police Bike speedos.

Look in the Hall of Wisdom for a post entitled "Oh No, Not another Speedo Post".
