I called for a price on a room for the rally and was told the cheapest room was $250 a night. Any suggestion on someplace else to stay. My wife is coming and I'd like some place nice, about halve the price and still close to the rally.

I called the person listed in Owners News and found she was on vacation until Friday. Will call back then. $250 doesn't sound like a discounted room to me.

Paul, I call that theft!!! I'd hate to see the regular price.

So what if the leaves are changing. The Adirondacks aren't even remotely close to the Dolomites in scenery and riding experience, yet I can get one hell of a room with breakfast and dinner for $75 in the Dolomites.

I can't figure out the high price of accomodations in North America considering that operating costs here are practically nothing in comparison.

It's called GREED. Your utopian European friends apparently haven't discovered it.

Well then you ought to come up here to experience GREED. I buy all my motorcycle and car parts in the US to save serious coin.

Accomodations for some reason are a different matter; equal up here and down there, and in both cases...overpriced!!! I'll spend my vacation dollars overseas.

The Dolomites are most certainly beautiful. I'd love to visit them one day, however the event in question occurs in New York's Catskill Mountains which are located in the southern portion of the state. Myself and several members ride them regularly and quite enjoy the scenery and riding experience. :thumb

The location has nothing to do with it. But for some reason, someone in the Adirondacks thinks the changing of the colors warrants some rediculous accomodations pricing. Its a good thing they don't think the Dolomites are so special where I overnight or I might be paying ten grand a night.

At $250 a night, that place should not hold their breath waiting for me. :laugh

Ok, now you're losing me, Alex. Where has anyone in this thread or otherwise suggested or even remotely intimated that there was a room in the Adirondacks that was available for $250.?

Do we have an MOA event in the Adirondacks stuck in somewhere between Hunter and Spartanburg? :whistle

Supply and demand sets the price.

He's having a hard time seeing down his nose.

Supply meet demand. Demand meet supply.

Hi GlobalRider :wave. Went out and saw the Grand Canyon and a bunch of the Southwest in 'February 07. Went down to the Everglades last January. Alaska in "06. Did the northern Rockies, Yellowstone, and the Tetons in "05. Death Valley and Central California the year before. Live in New England and every fall reminds me of how beautiful a world we live in. I kinda like it here.

I'm sure the Dolomites are nice and after I have seen all that my home has to offer I might come see yours. But please don't run my people down in the mean time.:nono

Hi Rod, Several of us got a condo near Hunter for $145.00 a night. Check with the girl in charge of the rally accomodations, I'm sure you'll find something at a better deal.

I take it we're still talking about room rates based on the originator's post. ;)

"Where" doesn't really matter. I thought it might have been where Paul lives since he mentioned the price in his post. Once again, I don't care where that accomodation is...$250...what are they smok'in?

I wish they were "mine". I live here.

Run down? I think they're doing it all by themselves with those room rates.

Wow! What a reaction I'm seeing here from some, oddly enough when I saw this event and the one in Spartanburg in this months ON, my first thought was "kool I should post about these on the forum since I think its a great idea and its just what folks have been asking for and wondering why MOA doesn't do more regional events". Well here are two in keeping with the call for such from the membership and yet what happens??? the very first post in the colors of the "Gillette is going be terrible cause its going to be hot, its too far..etc etc" threads. I don't get it, people ask for stuff such as regional events and then (some) reject it when it comes along! ?????

As for the prices, well since when have sky resort areas been inexpensive???

For me I was excited by this, its a great area for riding been thru it myself, fall colors should be pretty good this year, the event itself is free (and you know what they say about BMW owners) whatÔÇÖs not to like?
I would have gone had it not fallen on the same weekend as our clubs local event and the fact I got another cruise coming up soon so donÔÇÖt have the extra time to take a few more days off to go.

If this sort of reaction becomes the standard, how long do you think the folks that put these together will bother??

Ah, he's just biased. To each is own. Leben Sie und lassen Sie Phasen.

Leaf Peepers are a GIANT business up there. They ask and people pay it.

You do realize that the prices are set by the market, right? The owners know that they can charge that much and that their customers will pay it. While you may not see the appeal of traveling through there (let's ignore the costs of even getting to the dolomites), others clearly want to. As to the costs of running a business there, I won't pretend to know.

$135 a night if you stay for two nights and that is a queen bed and pull out sofa. So the room sleeps two and divide in half with a friend and now the price is more reasonable.
