Small K75RT Electrical problem

I've used a cold shrink tape from McMaster-Carr, item #7643A37, with great success on a number of areas including shift lever cover. This item has been replaced by 7643A371 which is the same except has a lower temperature rating. See www.mcmaster.com

You need to use a black fabric tape. Your dealer has gotten a roll of it a couple of years ago for repairing the latest bikes connectors, etc. You might ask for a bit of it. I haven't seen it readily available...you could ask around...same stuff used on factory wiring harnesses on cars and bikes.

I worked in a hardware store for a good many years. The black fabric tape was always in the electrical section next to the regular electrical tape. Many of the old-timer electricians would not use anything else.

You likely won't find this stuff in a big-box store, and maybe not even in one of those hardwares with aisles that resemble a supermarket. Might try an electrical wholesale house, too. I haven't looked lately, but if it's still around, that's where to find it.

We used to call it friction tape....and wrap the bottom of the hockey sticks with it.

I'd use liquid tape for this problem.

Is your fuel tank vent hose point directly at the portion of the speedo cable that is in question? Do you use a acid wheel cleaner? Is or was the battery leaking in the right rear corner? I just installed a GPS on my K75 tonight and had to run a wire down the right side and noticed that the battery and fuel vent would be the most likely cause.

Negative on all of these.

I just tried liquid tape. Didn't turn out to be a very neat job, but it looks like this stuff should work. Will let you know after 500 miles or so.
