    Front wheel removal

97 R1100RT needs a tire on front. The caliper hits the wheel. Can I split the caliper? Push pads and piston back in enough to get wheel out? Must be a trick somehow!

    no, no, no,

You need to remove the calipers to get the wheel off. Support the calipers with a wire or bungy cord, DO NOT let them hang on the hoses. While the calipers are off, do NOT squeeze the front brake lever.

In order to remove the calipers you first have to CAREFULLY push the brake pads and their pistons back into the body of the brake. Do this before removing the bolts holding the calipers to the forks.
I have been using a big screwdriver to open up the space, just don't lever too hard against the disc.

Thanks for the info. I was able to get them off and got my new tires. There is not much clearance to remove them. This is what it looked like.

Don??t worry - we with the K??s use a piece of wood to hold the bike instead of a car-lift
