Buying a Canadian BMW

Has anyone bought a BMW bike in Canada and brought it back to the US? What issues will crop up at the border? Bike is a 1983 R65. Thanks.

I think there are two places you need to ask some questions. The US customs and your home state registration office (DMV). Those are the two agencies you need to get past in this issue. You really need to get specific answers to what you need to do before you try and cross the border with the bike.

The other issue you might have is the Canadian bikes come with speedo's that show KM/H ONLY, unlike the US bikes that have both MPH and KM/H. I'm not sure if you will have to change this to register it in your state. Even the 3 series BMW cars are that way.

Imports and Poutine

...see other post...then there is the obligatory Noshing of the Poutine.
But only if importing from Quebec.

No. At least not here ... or in Ohio.

[Still multiplying kph by .6 ... ;) ]

Friend of mine went to Whitehorse for the weekend and his car went kaput. He bought a used candian pick-up and simply drove back home to Alaska. I believe that older vehicles get a pass.
