Rattle?

Is it normal for the engines to have an internal sounding rattle at high (5500-ish) RPMs?

I know this is vague, but I am new to the BMW scene...

No idea... just had the 6k maint done, throttle bodies adjusted, etc...

its a faint sound...

I am going to have my stepfather check it out.

Yes mine rattles some at 4500 to 5000 but then it has 90,000 miles on it and still more quite than I am used to.

This may be something entirely different, but under hard acceleration (and yes, at about 5,500 RPM) my GS has more of a "Crackle" than a rattle. I thought it was coming from the collector, but I've since installed a sebring "Y" pipe and it still crackles. Don't know what it is :scratch
