Anyone own a Ford Sport-Trac?

I don't own one but I remember seeing on of the crash test things Consumer News does on tv and the sport trac had a higher roll over rating....

I have a 2001 Sport Trac and both my bikes, K75 and R90 have been on the back of my truck. They must be loaded with the tail gate open for the back wheel support and the bike must be in an angle. Not straight in. also, the cage cargo divider removed, of course. I used the side anchors of the truck to lower the front forks down with tie downs and the rest of the bike was secured with with three more tie downs. I drove my truck all the way from Miami to Florida with my 1975 R90. It was a smooth ride.
It took two people to load and unload. I would have preferred to have a third person.
And of course, I used a ramp. I Never EVER ride the bike up any ramp to a truck. Walk the bike.
Best of luck!!

I have an '01 Sport trac also, and appreciate the experience of those who've trucked a bike in it. I've yet to move any of my bikes, but it does have lots of tie down places. The bed is short, but I think it would accomodate a medium sized bike ok. Don't think it'll do the RT tho'.

Thanks for your replies. It appears that my R1100R will just fit in the bed straight on. The back wheel may slightly hang over the edge of the gate, but only the part not supporting the bike. The gate is rated for 500 pounds.

I have a tie-down strategy using the perimeter points around the bed. I was afraid the interior hooks wouldn't take much load, but I see the wisdom in using them to preload the front suspension a bit.

Going from NW Arkansas to Vegas, so it's gotta be done right.

Much Better Plan

Sell the bike, put all the money on one spin of the roulette wheel when you get to Vegas; buy new bike with winnings. Absolutely cannot go wrong.:thumb

Actually, I did put it on Cragslist with a "take it or leave it" price. As far as roulette, I figure an oilhead final drive is enough of a gamble, it seems. :jester
