Is Your F800 Giving You Problems?

Ive put a deposit on the new F650GS. I would like to know if people have heard if there are "issues" with the F800s. The reason I ask is I bought a 2001 Dakar which didnt run right and the dealer couldnt fix. I dont want to go through THAT again.

Just One Caveat

The one thing I would take a close look at is the capacity of the electrical system. Will it support the electrical farkle the BMW community likes to add to its rides?

Its 400 watts. Not a lot but about the only thing I run is a vest once in a while.
You are right you want to be carefull what you add to the electrical load. Adding stuff is a good way to really screw it up! I see you are from Balston Spa. I grew up in Cobleskill.

I've added aux lights, and I should have the gps mounted soon. I need to check the electrical requirements, but I think it'll handle it. I may use a vest from time to time, but not often in LA (lower Arkansas).....no more farkles for me....at least for now...

As far as "other issues", visit f800riders.org. The 800s are discussed in depth there, and it seems that earlier issues have been fixed or explained. As for mine, I have no complaints....except I keep arriving early everywhere I go.....

It depends to what degree you mean "not the same engine". It is the same core engine as the F800S&ST. The changes are fairly minor, such as the cams, angle in which it is installed in the frame, and apparently the location of some of the mounting bosses, and configuration of the clutch. Mostly state-of-tune type stuff.

Nothing major enough to worry that the S/ST 's didn't sort out the few documented bugs.

My ST was built in April '07, which is after the FI software and front pulley problems were corrected at the factory. It has been flawless.

I think he was talking about the engine in the F650 vs. that in the F800S/ST. They are not the same engine, yet. It will be 2009 models when they are the same basic engines.

I have had no problems with mine.
