Imagine not having a windscreen or a visored helmet.

A couple years back I was heading to our local club monthly meeting when I saw a rock kick up from a car coming the other way in the adjoining lane. I saw it sail up and over my windscreen and drop to nail me in the chest - hard enough for me to slow down and think about the pain.

My chest was back and blue for days. But my windscreen dodged a bullet!

Took a ride to get dog food today and it was 70 degrees or so. Ended up doing a loop which included Ocean Drive in Newport , RI. Good day for a ride.

Took a ride over to the TX/LA border. In this case, LA is Louisiana, not Los Angeles or Lower Alabama.

Love the old Texas markers. Not as many out there as days back it seems from my travels.

Wondered if they were from CCC days?

I'm going to try to get over to the International Boundary Marker east of Carthage. It's from the Republic of Texas days.

I don't remember what highway this marker is on. We were headed to Jefferson Tx.

Almost moved to Carthage in 80’s for a lineman’s job...

Had to check out Republic marker, my mom was a big early Texas historian and probably schooled us on it!

We thought we'd take a ride over the Continental Divide to Lincoln, MT. It was 42 degrees, mostly sunny with winds of 5-10 MPH when we left the Outpost headed for the Pit Stop, a purveyor of fine hamburgers in Lincoln. It is about 20 miles to the top of Flesher Pass from our place. As we rode and gained altitude the temperature dropped, the winds picked up and a dark cloud hung over the mountains where Lincoln lies (see picture). At the top of the pass the temperature was in the mid-30's with winds 25-30 MPH, gusts to 40 (my estimate) and light snow flurries. So, we did what all seasoned adventure riders would (or at least should) do... we courageously turned around and hightailed it out of there. Going down hill with a substantial tail wind allows the Ural to achieve dizzying speeds well into the 60s. We bypassed home and headed to a joint nearer to home that is the purveyor of mediocre hamburgers. A good day was had by all as yet again Spousal Unit was able to proclaim, “Hazzah!! Nothing fell off!”
