Rear wheel swap on a R850R

I have a chance to buy a rear 5 spoke 17" BMW wheel from a later model R bike. My 1996 850R has the 3 spoke 18" wheel. I always like the look of the later model 5 spoke wheels. I will need a new rear tire soon and thought this might be a good time to swap out.

Will it should be a direct change over? Will my brake rotor fit the 17" wheel? If it's a no I'll skip it and keep the 18".

Thanks
Tom

I'm going to guess that you might want to reconsider...switching your rear wheel sizes will change the geometry of your bike and have an adverse effect on your ride and especially handling characteristics. Enjoy your 850R the way it is, as I do mine!
