Hey, I rode a R27 while a poor grad student. I'm now on a Dakar after almost 40 years of twins. The current thumpers are night and day from the old BMW singles, those bikes would beat you to death.
I went from a GS1150 to my Dakar, best change I ever made.

I just glanced back at your original post on farkle for the 650. I felt your pain last year when I sold my RT for the 650. I feel would feel inadequate if it weren't for you know...
Do know about Touratech?. If not, largest and best supplier out there for goodies on the 650. Someone already mentioned Wunderlich out of Santa Cruz. Happy-trail sells decent panniers and top boxes (per the ON article). http://www.adventurersworkshop.com/ has some stuff for the 650 as well.
