We have owned seven sidecars since 1984. Four of them have been Beemers and three were BMW twins. Here's a picture of the two EML's that I assembled from their kits in 1984.

And here is a picture of the R1200C with a Champion Escort sidecar that I put together in 2003. Yeah, I know it's an oilhead and not an airhead but it fits into the BMW twin category.

Could you explain what is in the pictures of the Rommell rig? To save time, I understand the shovel and the winch, but I don't recognize the WAECO device. Looks like a large paper shredder, though I am reasonably certain you are not venturing into the wild to camp and shred old forms.

Randy, I think the Waeco is a frig (possibly propane powered).

I am going to look at a possible trade for my 1987 k100rs. It is a 1976 r90/6 with a sidecar. Anyone have any idea what I should look at in particular?:dunno i have never seen a sidecar except in pictures so I have no idea what to look for or at.
Thanks, Jim

Sourdough,

I would suggest you take the Sidecar/Trike education program ASAP, even if you have to fly to WA or VA where it's being offered. They normally provide the training rigs.

The hands-on experience will give you some insight into what's involved with three-wheeled motorcycles. More importantly, you'll make contact with people who are sidecar experienced.

I also suggest you obtain a copy of Driving A Sidecar Outfit (second edition) from Printwerk Graphics 800 736-1117 or Whitehorse Press 800 531-1133. The second edition includes a section on attachment and alignment, and will help you understand what's needed and what you're looking at.

Used to have R75 with Velorex -- about done w-R90/6 w-Bender Florin

Here's a picture of my hack I sold late last year.
AddiintheHack.jpg

I am about done with my R90/6 hack project that I have been working on with my buddy Gerry. It will have an old Bender-Florin sidecar that we found in Troy, Missouri. The Bender was hooked up to a non-running R80ST...didn't think that was a good combo anyway so we separated them and the Bender is going on the R90 and the R80ST will be free to ride solo again after we get it straightened out (got it running last weekend).

The rig should be pretty cool but nothing too fancy. I just finished spraying the first layer of clear coat over 3 or 4 layers of fine rattle-can BMW black (my 1st attempt at painting a motorcycle). The paint job might not come out all that great but anything is better than the glitter red paint the previous owner had on the R90!

Should be riding the rig in two weekends or so. Also planning to ride it in the St Louis Ride for Kids event in September.

Cheers,
Brain
