    Duluth/Superior to West Bend?

Anyone in the Duluth/Superior area know of any interesting routes to West Bend? I live in Grand Forks but my lake cabin is closer to Duluth and I plan to leave from there. All of the searches I have made on the net lead me to the Cities and Boring I-94. Thanks for any suggestions...wj

Once you're in the Twin Cities...

If you come down to the Twin Cities from Duluth, you could basically follow the river south (Highway 61 on the Minnesota side, Highway 35 on the Wisconsin side), which is a nice scenic ride, then head east on other roads toward West Bend. There was an article about this in February or March's Owner's News.

Looks like you've got some possibilities from the north as well, but I'll let our Wisconsin brethren speak to those, since I've never ridden east from Duluth through northern Wisconsin.

You're right, though, I-94/I-90 is boring, but fast.

    northwoods route...
hwy 2 east, a good side road is hwy 13 up and around bayfield (takes you across the top of WI along Superior)
then hwy 51 south to hwy 47 east (I hope you don't mind tree lined roads)
hwy 47 to 55 south (more trees)
55 south to hwy 29 ( a fun jaunt along the wolf river)
you can then hot foot it to the rally and not miss much...
    hwy 29 to hwy 47
    hwy 47 to hwy 41
    hwy 41 to rally

    or along the river

35 south to hwy 60 (follows the Mississippi)
hwy 60 east to the rally(follows WI river)

    Option one looks great!

Option one appears to be exactly what I am looking for. One problem, I'm from North Dakota. Please remind me what a tree is. Thanks much....wj

I was just looking into this today for someone else.

MN rt 63 to 35, 35 follows the river into La Crosse. WI rt 16 out of La Crosse to hwy 60, or there abouts.

and the trees will be waiting for you at your cabin, patiently, as they always have!!

I will be passing through Duluth then on to Ashland and Hurley, down 51 to Wausau, over to Green Bay and then down the lake. I took 51 down to Oshkosh air show a few years back. Very nice drive. Gonna ride this time.
