Can a bike be equipped with ABS?

If the model bike you own was offered with the ABS option the easiest way is sell your bike and buy one with ABS - it would be the least costly way to do it.

If you are talking about fitting ABS to a bike that never had the option of ABS then - yes you can do it - but it will cost you more than it's worth. Anything can be done for the right amount of money. You are talking about some major fabrication & electrical work assuming you got what you needed from a wrecked bike.

I guess it would be possible, but costly. The wiring harness would have to be replaced. You'd have to replace the wheel assemblies to get the ones with the sensor rings. You'd have to source the wheel speed sensors, sensor wiring, relays, ABS lights for the instrument panel, and get an ABS modulator/controller. That means changing the brake system to accomodate the two lines that plumb into the brakes. This all would be more work than its worth for the cost. The ABS modulator alone costs $1600 for a new one, and $500 to $800 is reasonable for a salvage one. I got lucky and found one for $250.

So it is no easy task to do it, and should be done be a very qualified home mechanic or a BMW mechanic. For the dollars/time, I'd say you'd be better off to get a different BMW that has the ABS on it.
