Wow!:dance Looks like you did very well on your trip! Cool pics! :thumb

Very nice trip. Where did you rent the bike from?

The R1150R was rented on Oahu from the Big Kahuna.

Great pictures!!!

We lived there for fourteen years and now we live in Chicago:( We had a bike for the first couple of years but you can only ride so many miles on an island. Also wearing protective is a little too hot.

Hmmm Warmth

Thanks Santa,

The pictures were wonderfull to look at on a cold and blustery WI morn. However some of the pictures you had taken at Oahu, my mom has on slides, without as many tourists and buildings. When I was little girl my dad was stationed at Pearl for the duration of his naval duty.

A great post. Excellent pictures, good information. Thanks for taking the time to put it all together.

Hi Bob, I used Big Kaunas's rentals and he was average to work with. Enjoy my 2006 ride report.

We used Big Kahuna also. We rented the 650 because someone else already had the 1150 for the day.
Nice place to ride but it would get boring after about a week.

Made me home sick! =)

I likes in Oahu for about 5 years (worked in radio and tv) before heading to Asia....now living near Chicago....

Awesome pics!

Thanks, Beerteam, for great Hawaii pictures

Made me itch to be back in Hawaii. Have been visiting the Big Island every six months or so over the past few years. There are enough highway miles to really enjoy a bike on that island, but the only ones I've seen to rent there (apart from 50cc scooters) are Harleys. I think a motard bike would be great on the Big Island, especially for traveling some of the bumpier roads, like the Saddle Rd (which crosses between the Mauna Kea & Mauna Loa, on East/West axis). Maybe one of these days go to stay for several months, & ship my 650 Dakar (with motard wheels) over.

Wow Jim; you really did the islands!

You certainly pull out all the stops when you travel---man, what an itinerary.

Seeing all of the major islands via your stellar report was fantastic. Although I've lived on Oahu and Hawaii for years, your photos showed me places I've never seen before.

What a great eye you have. I'm a professional photographer myself so I can say that with some authority, too.

One little update since your Feb. 2007 trip (as you may have heard by now)---Halemaumau Crater exploded last March 19th (IIRC) and has been spewing forth a gigantic plume of ash, rocks, tephra and thousands of tons per day of hideously toxic sulphur dioxide gas (SO2). It's been killing off a lot of exotic plants and people around here with asthma are really suffering.

Fortunately for us (we live 4 miles away) the tradewinds blow it away from us 98% of the time. I don't have a photo of this available at the moment (all of my local stuff is on another hard drive that needs to be recovered) otherwise I would post one now---but next time I'm in the Park I'll grab a few shots to post here soon. Pretty amazing!

Next time you're in the islands give me a heads-up; we can go riding over to the Bird Sanctuary and then on up Mauna Loa Road (I could loan you my Honda Ruckus:boldpurpl )---one of the few great attractions you actually missed on your last expedition.

Cheers!

Nice report

I rented that same 1150 R from big Kahuna in 2008. I also rented a Road Glide from them another day. It was my 50th state on a HD, and am now starting over on BMW's. I am up to 15 on BMW's. Loved your report.
