What happened to the good old days when you could take off the fenders of your old Harley Flathead or Indian Scout and run around in the sand dunes along Lake Michigan for some fun hill climbing?
What happened to drag racing on Washington St. in Downtown Lansing, MIch. with the old man's Edsel? Citizens built a drag strip in Onondaga for the "kids" but now the dragsters are $500,000 monsters. What kid could afford that. Now look what they have done with hill climbing! Special built bikes that can be used for nothing else but that one weekend of the year at the National Hill Climbing Championships at Mt. Garfield, just south of Muskegon, Mich.:banghead :banghead :banghead :violin

the good old days

We used to have the Outlaw Drags on the old airstrip at the former Lincoln Park Airbase in southwest Calgary. The hot match up was a guy with a Kawi 500 Mach III against another guy with a fibreglass front ended 396 Camaro. The bike was a bit quicker accelerating, with the car a bit faster at the top end. The noise was incredible.

My Lambretta 150 LD didn't race.

Later, the police put dirt barriers across the strip.

Then we would race my buddy Don's (he's now CEO of an energy company) 1960 Corvair up the Snake Route, in an exclusive Calgary neighbourhood. So later, when his book came out, we knew Nader was full of s**t. That Corvair never rolled once.

Those were fun times.

Yeah, but now we dye our hair and drink our coffee at Starbucks. I used to wear a purple metalflake helmet with a blue bubble. At the time that was cool .The world's gone crazy!:twirl
