My Motorcycle History

1954 in Adelaide, South Australia - unwittingly exposed from birth to the 'dangerous' world of motorcycles, riding in sidecar with mum, on my dad's BSA 500cc motorcycle)
1971 mesmerised as a 17 year old by neighbour's Honda 90cc scooter (second-hand, probably late 1960s model), just had to buy it - sold
1978 Honda 125cc (new) motorcycle (well, I needed transport), in London, England - sold to return home
1981 Suzuki 250cc (new) motorcycle, (twice as big!) back in Adelaide - traded-in on next bike
1985 BMW R80 g/s (new) motorcycle (shocked my father who said it was way too big for me) - traded-in on next bike
1990 BMW R100 RT (new) motorcycle (... so I could only go bigger) - sidecar added for first child
1996 BMW F650 GS (new) motorcycle (husband riding outfit with son, so I had a grand excuse to buy another bike...) - sold
2004 BMW R80 g/s (second-hand, 1983 model, 14,000 kms on clock) - will never be sold; probably have to be buried with me, (should never have sold the 1985 one)
2015 BMW R1200GS (new, purchased in the UK, currently riding here in the USA)

1979,
was going to buy a new kawasaki 175 and ride it home and surprise my wife.
Naw, that not a good idea.

THen thought to buy it and tell her I bought it.

THen thought I would tell her I was going to buy it.
Naw, that not a good idea.

THen tought I would tell her I was thinking of buying it.
Naw, that not a good idea.

THen thought I waould tell here I was thinking of a bike, maybe something like the 175.
Yah, that is a better idea.
So I did, showed her a picture of it.
She said "175, why you want something so small?"

So, next day I went and made a downpaymnet on a new KZ400.



1982 Got a new GS650G, traded in the KZ. Glad to get away from chain drive.



1994 got an 80 GS850G

2004 Got Shadow 500 for wife, sold the 650G


2005 got a 82 GS1100GK, sold the 850G



(and son on SV650)

2015 got the 02 R1150RT (at daughters in San Diego, may ride home this summer).
