I want to paint my trunk box for my R1200RT and am wondering if I should try and order it from my local BMW dealer or go for having a local paint supplier mix it for me?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
also, does anyone know what would be a fair price if I took it in to an auto body shop to have it painted to match my bike?

Thanks in advance, Chuck

I had the lid of my top case on my Piedmont Red RT painted by a local backyard custom motorcycle painter. He sent me to his automotive paint supplier to have him "shoot" a painted piece of bodywork with his spectrograph and then mix the paint. I ended up with a perfect color match and paint job for $175.00.

Thanks for the information, I was hesitant about the spectograph but sounds good, I will check for the paint code sticker as well. I plan on getting this done over the winter.

Thanks again, Chuck

Chuck,

I had my 29 liter top case painted to match my Piedmont Red 2005 RT. The paint code for Piedmont Red is 912.

You will see a scheme code of 911, but this is for the total look of the bike. Mine is Piedmont Red with silver lowers and gray seats.

Your painter should be able to match the 912 paint code with PPG paints.

I wanted the saddle bags to match my red 1150RT (plus the black finish scratched easily). My local auto painter matched the color with paint chips and the spectrograph and it came out great.
