Woman hit by train while talking on cell phone

SEATTLE ÔÇô A woman talking on her cell phone was seriously injured Sunday afternoon when she was struck by a train, according to Seattle Police.

Witnesses said the woman was talking on her phone as a freight train crossed South Spokane Street near 2nd Avenue around 4 p.m.

The woman waited for the train to pass, and then walked around the lowered gates only to be hit by an Amtrak train traveling in the opposite direction.

Police said the woman was knocked clear of the train and her injuries did not immediately appear to be life threatening, but soon developed into something more severe.



Scary isn't it...

Give them 4,000lbs and 300Hp and they can still talk on the phone...

When I was a cop we used that as code for people who did stupid things in their cages. I guess you could amend it to WWHUA.

I saw the San Diego Trolley hit a car in the early 80's. Did not do much damage to either because the car got hit in the rear quarter panel area. Spun it around about 3 times. The trolley had just left the station and was not yet fully up to speed, which is a good thing. The driver figured she could beat the train and drove around the lowered crossing gate. Had the trolley been traveling at a higher rate of speed, the car would have gotten it in the passenger side door. And this was before cell phones.
