    New F-Twins coming in 2024 - F800GS, F900GS, and F900GSA

    Looks like some nice features:

I'm also stoked about the weight reduction.

BMW must have the same faith in their engines no matter where they are built. They all have the same warranty no matter where the engines were produced.

I found those Chinese engines to be better than its predecessor. For a twin they were/are smooth and had a very linear fueling map. Plenty of power for any typical application. Not sure why there’s this “Chinese” engine concern, is it just a carry over from being fearful of competition or a racist mindset?

I would be interested in knowing how much that F 900 GS actually weighs. 14 kg weight reduction is interesting but what’s the total weight weight?
Go soothingly through the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.

It might be the Chinese sourcing and the European pricing that bothers some.

I read 481 lbs curb weight with a 3 1/2 gallon tank. My 2013 R1200R with shaft drive and a 5 gallon tank has a posted curb weight of 491 lbs. Take 1 1/2 gallons out of my bike and it’s only 1 lb more than the 900 GS. I thought the 900 GS would have been much lighter.

I don't understand the bias either. A Chinese sourced iPhone designed in US can do no wrong, but as soon as the discussion turns to engines it's a problem. The engine in my 750 has actually performed well. As for the new releases, I don't seen anything other than the engine update. I was hoping for something a little more interesting but we'll probably have to wait until 2025 to get the updates on the 800.

The adjustable shocks as standard on the 900GS is nice, also interested in the Dynamic Traction Control DTC and cornering-optimized ABS Pro. However, I've lived without these on my '13 F800GS so far (famous last words?). I could leave behind the Akrapovič pipe. In a weird twist from BMW, it now seams that you can put on soft bags, rucksacks, or an aluminum case with the original mounting points.

The Chinese are the worlds best when it comes to manufacturing. Yes, you can get some cheap stuff from China, but you can also get some very high quality stuff.

I'm old enough to remember when "Made in Japan" was a subject of derision. Times change. I don't think you're gonna see that again and I suspect the notion that nothing but cheap crap comes from China is probably heading toward the same ultimate destination.

Absolutely. The only thing you have to do is position your own QC person at the manufacturer to oversee that you get what you pay for. And this is not for China alone btw... YMMV
