    Rear shock woes

I just acquired a 2013 K 1600 that is in need of a new rear shock. This is a new bike to me and I would like to get it repaired without having to do a second mortgage on my home! Appreciate any info or suggestions on the most affordable options and sources for replacement parts. I see some used shocks on eBay but not sure about purchasing used since they could also have issues.

How much you looking to spend? I just had both front and rear rebuilt by Ted Porters.

I purchased a WILBERS 644 WESA SERIES REAR SHOCK and replaced it myself on the same year bike, except I had the GTL. It's not hard, just takes time removing the parts and lifting the rear subframe up. The shock in 2018 was $680.00. Service manual is needed, but they're fairly easy to get.

Wilbers are an option or Tractive, I think that's your only options for the K16

Contact this shop. They can rebuild your BMW shock or set you up with a Wilbers aftermarket shock. https://epmperformance.com/

If you're replacing the shock, ensure that whoever sells it to you asks you about your weight, what you carry and whether you ride two up or not. In my experience, BMW typically doesn't have enough spring, so when loaded their bikes feel like they're pushing in corners.

When I put Ohlins on the RT, Ted Porter spent some time talking with me about how I rode, what we were usually carrying, how much it weighed, etc. When I got my shocks, the spring rate was perfect, he'd preset the rebound damping and it only need a click or two to be absolute perfection.

I can't recommend Ted highly enough. Suspension is all he does these days.

Some bikes. Some with motors, some without.
