2006 R1200RT - front shock leaking oil

I have a 2006 R1200RT, 54K miles, and the front shock is leaking oil. The local dealership tells me their service department is booked for the next 2 months, and they would have to send the shock away to be rebuilt.

Lots money, lots of downtime, and motorcycle season has just arrived after a long winter.

What are my options for fixing this?

Same. I put Ohlins on from Ted right after I bought my 05 and it transformed that bike from a kind of wallowy barge into a sharp, backroad capable weapon for surprising dawdling sport bike riders.

They won't be cheap, but man, they'll transform that bike when you're hustling up 8A out your way.

Yup! At that age and mileage, it's time for a new shock. Ted Porter is great.

A 2006 with 54,000 miles. 17 years old and therefore ridden a little over 3k per year. The bike might be worth somewhere around $6-7k and is still depreciating …

I’d seriously consider a $200 used shock from eBay and install it myself.

Leaky OEM shock
