That's an awesome setup for a solo rider. Great color too. Lee, as far as your touring you're lucky that Debbie rides her own bike. Amy and I like to take trips but going 2 up on a RS is pushing it as far as we're concerned. She would rather be a passenger than pilot her own bike for personal reasons. We did do many long hauls when we had the GL1800.

Reading this thread with interest. Ya'll LOVE the RS. I have the 20 R1250RT; did not get a GS b/c the wind protection seemed skimpy. Now, this RT has much more wind protection than my former 07 RT and I might be a tad warm in the lower body regions. Tell me about wind protection on the RS when riding below 50F for a few hours.

We're used to small fairings so hopefully the others will chime in.
On a cloudy damp day I will use my heated jacket, unplugged under my riding jacket.
Debbie will have her heated jacket turned on at a low temp in the same conditions.
Legs and feet are comfortable at those same conditions.
Both of us use the stock shield in the low position and mounted in the lowest set of holes.
The RS has two sets of holes to attach the shield and then you have a manual low and high position.

I came to the RS from a 2018 RT and the lower wind protections in my opinion is good. I've ridden in temps down to 40*f wearing my Tourmaster protective over pants without adding the quilted liner and was comfortable. I do use a Puig Touring screen at the lower setting with an airfoil added as I am rather "tall in the saddle" but that's for upper body.

I appear to be a bit late to the party. But better late than never, right?

I took delivery of my RS this past Saturday. Trailered it back from Melbourne FL (200 miles) and rode it ten miles home from U-Haul. I finally took it out this morning for a 30 mile jaunt before work. I think that this is the beginning of a long, serious relationship.

I see a number of folks that have installed HeliBar risers or Wunderlich bars. I can see me doing one or the other. I would think that the risers would be much easier to install as compared to a full bar replacement. I spent ten years riding an early GSXR750. I do not want to be fully upright. But at my age, taking some of the weight off of my wrists would not be a bad thing.

I am most happy to be here amongst friends. And I greatly appreciate all of the experts' answers to my many dumb questions.

Excellent! What color RS? I added Helibar risers and I am pleased with the lift/back move. I'm more upright than stock but not "cruiser" upright. My neighbor has a '23 Red/White/Blue RS and he has another brand of risers that are a little less upright. I'll ask him what they are and post that information. BTW, post a picture of your RS if you get a break from riding. LOL

Oh, yes please. I'd be very much interested in knowing what he purchased. Well, if he bought the "sport" red/white/blue, I'm right there with him. This is my baby taken right after I got her home.

Yeppers, that's it. Installing the bar risers was quick and easy. nothing needed beyond the risers and the install kit that came with them. I also relocated my GPS mount away from the bars and up near the wind screen. I used the Moto-Mate kit. Now my GPS is in my field of vision and I don't really have to take my eyes off the road. Plus the BMW roundel is visible instead of hidden under the factory GPS mount.

Bear in mind that, depending on the speeds you travel, the stock bar may be the perfect bar for you. I typically travel at 120km/h and, having recently done a 4,000km trip, did not experience any wrist/arm pain whatsoever.

Try it, you might like it!

    And welcome to the tribe.

Thank you! And thanks for the suggestion. Heck, I've only put 30 miles on the bike so far. I love the seating position. I can feel only slight pressure on my wrists. I definitely do not want to be fully upright. But my crotch rocket days are behind me.

Just picked up a 23 1250RS sport white/red/blue!. 120km ride home from the dealer and I love it more than I thought I would. Coming from a 13 F800GT I'm very glad I went with this over the 900, its everything I loved about the 800 and everything I wish it was in one.

The gobs of torque even under 5k rpm and at half throttle.. wow. Just need to figure out how to use the quick shifter properly now.

Elementalist, that's a nice looking ride 👍 The quick shifter will get to be second nature in short order. Enjoy!

On the gas, shift at 5k plus. Smooth as silk.

    GREAT looking bike, btw.

Throttle closed on the down shift. Equally silky smooth.
