Speedo light removal?

Replacing my speedo and the used one I bought came without the light bulb and socket. The socket from the old one is stuck and I,m hoping it wasn’t glued in as there is some suspicious brown staining . I don,t want to force it and break it. Advice?CDE72142-66DB-4334-AF2F-BD012F82B56A.jpeg

Is this for an R80ST? Well, as I recall, you have to be able to pull the holder in order to put in the new bulb, which sticks up inside the speedo pod. I would imagine that it turns, likely turns say 1/4 the way on direction and then pulls out. Does yours look like it might turn to the left or the right? It can't pull straight out otherwise it wouldn't stay in place. So, I would think that it has to turn then pull out. It's #4 on this diagram:

It may be possible to buy a new one...it doesn't appear to cost that much.

Max says unavailable. The The receptacle for the socket is smooth so I don’t think it turns in, just presses in like the green dash bulbs

yes, R80st, but other models use a similar speedo.

maybe someone who has replaced the bulb can verify how the holder is removed.

I think the R80ST is going to be different than other Airheads. For my /7 and for another 1983 R100RS, the instruments are lit using a printed circuit inside the speedo pod. But I did find Brook Reams' page where he at least showed the same terminal that you show for the bulbs.

Not he doesn't say much on his site, but maybe he'll be along at some point to give you pointers. The R80ST is a bit different as far as I can see.

gave it a shot of PB Blaster and gently pulled and twisted and it came out. there are little ribs on the side that help keep it in the smooth bore.

Glad you were able to resolve this! Usually time is your tool when using a penetrant.
