I searched for this topic without finding it...........

I booked a room last year as soon as the rally was announced at a local motel, at a fair rate.

I have friends looking for rooms now and they all are WAY HIGHER!
Almost gouging in my opinion!

Does anyone know of a nearby motel/hotel that isn't gouging?

tks,
jason

Wow! I was glad to have seen that link to area hotels. I had a reservation (made as soon as the rally location was announced), but with the hotel link and moa rates, I ended up saving quite a bit in making a change in reservations.

I/we did see this.
Motels in Fredricksburg are 35 minutes away...........
Makes sitting around listening to the band and drinking beer a long ride home.

Did you scroll down and see all the choices?
Seems like when I looked there were several choices about 10 miles away.
Not ideal but better than 35 miles.
I can understand wanting to be closer. At Lebanon and Springfield we were about 2 miles away.

Supply and demand.

Exactly. Try booking a motel in the Black Hills during the Sturgis Rally. Rates vary by the day of the week in one Belle Fourche motel we frequently use in the off season. The only reason I found that out is I thought we'd get a room over 2-3 days of Sturgis one year, and I was :eek We stayed home. I'm done with that $hit$how.

To paraphrase Yogi, “nobody goes to Sturgis anymore, it’s just too crowded.”

I booked at the La Quinta Inn 2 miles from the MOA site as soon as the place & dates were announced. My room including taxes cost $146.16 per night. Prices always go up when there are festivities in the area.

It's also prime time for the couple Kings Dominion amusement park motels.

We booked early at the Super 8 at Ruther Glen, 10 miles to the north of Doswell. Four nights for $240 total, all in, tax included.

Which reminds me of a somewhat humiliating story. While roasting, camped with the GEARS riders at "Doomsburg" I decided to book a room at Sedalia right away. I got on line and got a "no rooms available for that date" message. I was angry, concluding that they had blocked things until they could raise their prices. I promptly marched over to the Sedalia Chamber of Commerce/Visitor Bureau ladies in the vendor building. After I got done complaining the very tolerant lady said, "You can only book a room 365 days in advance. You will have to wait until the day after tomorrow." Oops! I was a little too early.:doh

We've had good luck with getting good rates and a place close to the rally when booking early.
Best Western at Springfield was $59 + tax 2 nights and $63 + tax 2 nights.
Lebanon Econo Lodge was $72 + tax.
Both places had decent restaurants within walking distance.
