Why?
Totally unnecessary.

Many people use screen protectors and enjoy adding "Personalizations" to their bike. Steve's videos are now part of the Wethead sticky-

Having acquired one small scratch on the TFT on my GS, I run a protector on it. It’s not a touch-sensitive screen so no issues that way, and the TFT unit is pretty much considered a non repairable part at this point—and just under $2k as a replacement part…plus dealer labor as it has to be electronically mated to the bike.

Steve, can you please tell us which one you purchased and option, it would also be good to know why one over the other. Thanks!
Steve,
Have had much time to ride with the screen protector? If so, how's the antiglare?
Also, how long did it take you to get the screen after from England after it was ordered?

It does help with the sun-glare, maybe. Now the sun is still low on the horizon, it's always going to be an issue until later in the year when it's more above you. The sun was secondary to just protecting the TFT from damage, and it was cheap enough to do, so why not.
It took about a week to get after I ordered it.
