R80/7 Fender Repaint - Spray Can - advice needed

I tried searching but couldn't find anything that can help. So my apologies if this has been asked in the past. If there is a thread, please point me to the right one.

Question: Does anyone know what spray can paint I can buy at autozone/napa/etc that is reasonably close to my 1978 R80/7? The moto is new to me and it looks like the front fender was sitting out in the sun for some time and the paint has faded. So I'm looking to do a nice rattle can job and prep it good so I can get it to almost how the tank looks. The tank looks great (at least for my taste), I'm not looking for a concours job as all I want to do is ride and have fun but looking nice. I'll probably have a detailing shop just sand/buff the tank to get a more life from it..

So has anyone gone this route? Any recommendations to this color, pictures attached.

Thanks in advance

Alex

Funny, I thought since it was fiberglass it wouldn't restore like the gas tank would. Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll try that once the weather gets better..

Your paint code, as far as I can tell, is 084 or 533 (one is the paint code, the other is the pinstriping). It's a blue metallic, which means you'll pay out the nose for a match at a paint shop. Shine a light on it, does it still have the metallic sparkle? Hopefully the info I found will point you in the right direction. I've painted a couple bikes in my time with rattle cans. As for the pinstriping, you can buy a roll on the cheap at your local O'Reilly.

I would first try polish, be careful not to remove the pinstripe. If sanding than polishing do wet sand. If the polish restores the fender to satisfaction then wax and done.

Perfect, think I'll try a polish first. Any recommendation on a polish not so abrasive? I heard mother's has great products. Or I can wet sand w/ 1500-2000 grit sand paper is a option as well.

If you are going to try polish but think it may end up with paint as a solution, I can recommend being careful to avoid any product containing any silicone.

Tape the pin stripe first before rubbing out the fender. Otherwise the pin stripe will disappear before you get the fender rubbed out. I’d just use a rubbing compound versus using a fine sand paper. Good luck with your project. Make that new to you bike yours.
