'58 R/50 Carb Replacement

I inherited this bike from the original owner in original running condition with tons of miles over 30 years ago. It has started and run great until now. The carbs are leaking fuel. I cleaned them and replaced the available seals to no avail, but to be honest, they are original and worn out.

I am looking for a source for replacement and ball park costs.....

I assume that your VIN and frame numbers actually match...looks like the first digit is different. Those are probably the early carbs for the 500cc series, and likely original to the bike. There are later carbs that would fit the R50 and R50/2 but would probably require some rejetting.

Do you know if the floats are still the original brass style? Is it possible they have stress cracked and are taking on fuel? This is a common problem. Vech at Bench Mark Works made plastic replacements...all his supplies have been sold to Max BMW.

Make sure that the center rod through the floats is not sticking in the well at the bottom of the float bowl. "Cancer" on the old pot metal bodies can build up and hold the float down. That rod needs to seal against the seat that is in the underside of the cap. You might consider getting some toothpaste or similar on the end of a pencil eraser and rub away at the seat to ensure a smooth surface.

I'd contact Bing in Kansas for some help. They might have carbs for sale or they could take your carbs and rebuild them for you.

Kurt is on the money .. Charlie at Bing USA in Kansas does good work, price is fair and he would likely be much more reasonably priced than trying to replace the very hard to find carbs. I have been in your shoes with a right side carb I thought was history and Charlie repaired the body of it. Side benefit is you keep the original carbs.
