R1200RS Gas Cap

First off, I hate locking gas caps. Hate may be too strong a word - detest is probably more accurate.

So...I have a third party screw-on gas cap in my hands. I've installed these on my previous R1100S and K1200S. BUT, upon removing the screws securing the original gas cap on my RS I find that the fuel funnel which projects into the tank seems to be attached/glued/fused to the metal fuel ring. These appear to be two different parts on the MAX BMW fiche.

My question is, what do I need to do to separate these two items so I can again have a blissful experience when refueling? Can they be pried apart? Do I need to dismantle the surrounding bodywork to gain access?

Your considered assistance is, as always, appreciated.

The gas tank covers need to be removed.

If there's enough miles on the bike you might want to change the air filter while the tank covers are off.
