R1200RS Gas Cap

BC1100S

Left Coast Rider
First off, I hate locking gas caps. Hate may be too strong a word - detest is probably more accurate. :D

So...I have a third party screw-on gas cap in my hands. I've installed these on my previous R1100S and K1200S. BUT, upon removing the screws securing the original gas cap on my RS I find that the fuel funnel which projects into the tank seems to be attached/glued/fused to the metal fuel ring. These appear to be two different parts on the MAX BMW fiche.

My question is, what do I need to do to separate these two items so I can again have a blissful experience when refueling? Can they be pried apart? Do I need to dismantle the surrounding bodywork to gain access?

Your considered assistance is, as always, appreciated. :bow
