    I just noticed your location.
We are not that far apart.
Maybe we can hook up for lunch after I get my "tourer."

    Yes

Yes we can, LOL, I have had the CC note on my Anonymus book for years, so far only three hits in 30 years, all good. LOL, luckily never any need for help. St.

I'm starting to sell some of my bikes and am moving to interesting cars. Motorcycles are a thing my wife and I have done together for 45 years, but arthritis has ended her riding for the most part.

I've got a Boxster. It makes us giggle as hard as when we were terrorizing sport bike riders with the RT. I'm going to sell my 916 and my RT and am going to add another car to the fleet.

Motorcycles have been, for almost our entire life together, a thing we do together. Whether she was riding her own or riding pillion with me, the joy was in our mutual rides. That's done, so aside from around town toodles, we have an interesting car to play with.

Maybe that's an opportunity that might serve you both better. I'm familiar with long term illness and know that every situation and every couple is different, but that's where we've wound up.

Some bikes. Some with motors, some without.

    Convertible

I picked up a good condition BMW 335i convertible a couple of years ago, so now, the wife and I do day trips in that together. LOL, she loves me enough to still let me do day trips on the bikes. St.

I would like to thank everyone for their input on this thread.
My buddy is going to see the bike tomorrow and he is taking a buddy of his that speaks fluent BMW.
There will be a compression test.

I will let you know what the outcome is.

In my opinion the r100rs was and is the best looking bike bmw ever built. I've owned many bmws but haven't been without a r100rs for over 40 years until this week. I just sold my beloved '78 r100rs and now I have none. Might seem weird but it was quite emotional seeing it leave.
Enjoy your ride; it's a beauty.

    Here's a picture I got from somewhere

I owned a78 /7 and now an 04 RS. I agree with others, this model will continue to be favored. I don't remember where I got this picture. Looks like blue was an option in 78.1978-BMWline up.JPG

    Colors

LOL, colors for bikes sold can go by country, a color offered in Canada, might not have been offered in USA, same with UK or Europe.

The R100RS is in my mind the prettiest bike BMW offered, followed second by the R100RT or R80RT with added venting storage and more upright seating. BMW did a good thing building the RT bike around some of the same designs as the RS. St.

A question for the collective group- '78R100rs

Nice Machine. And a unique color. I think that in 77-78 BMW made a few of these with a satin blue finish. This bike may be one of those, unless this is just sun faded clear. Don't think so, it looks like the real deal. It's worth doing some serious research

A few years ago I was handed an Ian Faloon book and told by the dealership to make it look like this example in the book. Can't remember the title.
I carved up 2 sets of plastics to make a good set. The bikes mechanicals were 0-timed on everything by Matt Noli of Iron Horse. Note the blue callipers.
It went to a collector for the paltry sum of $24,800 if memory serves me.

Good hunting on the info and many great miles.

The bike above appears to be a first year or 1977 R100RS. A few years ago there were celebrations of this bike's 40th anniversary. Links to discussions and photos from those celebrations are below -
