AL 2nd Sat R2E to Corinth, MS

P&K are leading the BMW MOAL Second Saturday Ride-2-Eat from Huntsville to Corinth, MS, on 10Sept of course!

Whoever wants to attend can ride or drive to the Crossroads Rib Shack for a planned rendezvous at 12:15. We were going to visit the famous Slugburger Cafe, but we observed on 7Sept that their long countertop is too small to support an MOAL R2E, especially for a popular & busy cafe at lunch time! We sampled the BBQ & Ribs at the nearby Rib Shack and the food was good, the tables were plenty, and the parking lot was paved. Street address: 201 US-72, Corinth, Mississippi; 662-284-4646

We’ll leave the Blue Plate Cafe on Governor’s Drive after the usual Vintage Bikers breakfast [~0845] heading cross country trying to avoid the major highways. The weather is projected to be rainy, but that could be random showers throughout the day and maybe T’storms later in the afternoon. We’ve all ridden in the rain before, so our second Saturday ride will occur (without knowing the total number of riders in advance).

The next stop after Lunch is the Lake Hills Honda Motorcycle dealership further east along the main drag: 2003 Highway 72 E Anx Corinth. They have a very respectable Vintage motorcycle display in three areas. Worth your time and awareness to come see with your own eyes. They close at 3PM on Saturday, so we won’t linger too very long.

We rode away from the Blue Plate Cafe with six bikers; we arrived for the Corinth lunch in a smaller group of four. Mike’s Honda was acting up in the dampness, so he went home to fetch his trustworthy FJR. We found him visiting the Honda dealership later. Bill wandered off during our ride to CoddiWomple the “R” townships of Rogersville and Russellville (which he needed to finish spelling out Wander Farther). He reappeared in time for our tasty lunch at the Rib Shack, and Nadia {from Cherokee} dropped in for lunch as well. She’s had a tough year out on her farm, so this was her first ride on her F800GT all summer. Jim McCorstin gets the Long-Distance MOAL Rider’s award for departing BHM in the rain early enough to then meander west with Doug, Bill, Mike, Phil & Karen.

After our fulfilling BBQ lunch at Crossroads Rib Shack, we rode the two miles east back to Lake Hill Motors. When everyone got their questions answered by Homer, the parts manager, four riders wandered into town to check out the historic Borroum’s Drug Store - now a vintage deli and old-fashion soda fountain. It apparently was opened on the city square after the Civil war by confederate Dr A. J. Borroum. It nicely capped off a respectable ride where good food was had and everyone made it home alive after riding 2 or 3 hundred miles... Throughout the day we encountered cooler temperatures and only occasional spritzes; the ride was definitely more comfortable than our hot ride to the Bright Star in Bessemer, AL last month!

Karen found the Honda NAVI (not Navy) to be very comfortable; all 7.8 h.p. & 109 cc’s
Appropriately, her T-shirt reads, Does this Bike make my Butt look Fast?

Next month brings the annual Barber’s Vintage M/C Festival, so y’all will just have to ride your Iron Butt Ride [IBR] to Leeds and join us in the Fan Zone for a variety of mobile food vendors. No one joined us four Vintage BMW Bikers in downtown BHM at Wasabi Juan’s last year, so we won’t try that experiment again. I’m sure we’ll bump into some of our former BMWBMW riders at the end of September in Waynesville, NC; < https://bmwra.org/events/bmw-riders-...ational-rally/ >.
Y’all enjoy the remainder of your summer by riding a motorcycle somewhere.
