New member here hoping to learn all about the BMW brand. Been riding for 45 years but never owned a beemer.

I have several friends that are owners and I've wanted one on several occasions.

Currently am riding a 2019 Triumph Tiger 800 and a 1979 Suzuki GS1000E. Both chain drive and up until about 3 years ago I had a shaft drive Honda ST1100.

My apologies for making my 1st post in the campfire forum....... This should have been my initial post.

Hope everyone that goes to Springfield, Mo. this weekend has a great time. That area is my favorite place to ride. It's hard to beat the Ozarks of Missouri and Arkansas IMHO.

Sorry for rambling on, just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for allowing me to become a member

Update of status

Well, it's official now. I am a brand new owner of a BMW.

Picked up a 2001 R1100 RL from a good friend who is in a state of memory loss and it's getting worse to the point of him not riding the bike for 6 years now. This is my first time of owning the brand so I will probably be bothering all of you for help from time to time. Hope you don't mind.

My 1st bit of work is to remove the tank and get rid of the left over six year old fuel. Next will be removing the spark plugs and spray some fogging oil into the cylinders, then turn the engine over by hand just to make sure it does rotate.

Then I will remove the oil filter and drain the oil out, refill it and see if it will start.

I don't have any repair manual for the bike, but I think it's fuel injected? IDK but if it is should I be able to hear the fuel pump activate?

Thanks in advance for any helpful input.

Larry

Thank you robsryder for this information. Very helpful. I appreciate it.

The "revival" is coming along slowly as we just finished a long dry spell with temps between 95 and 100 degrees

Hope to get back to it tomorrow. Got to install the internals back inside the tank then see if she will start up.
Following start up, I have to redo the brakes front and rear. The rear reservoir was empty and the front one looks like motor oil. Also thinking the front is going to need some piston work.
