What was your favorite concert?

In the 1970s in Oklahoma City at the Myriad ... an oldies show.

Chuck Berry
Bo Diddly
Shirelles
probably more I've forgotten

The Glenn Miller Orchestra in the Onion Barn in Ft. Morgan was pretty cool, too.

Cleo Laine and Johnny Dankworth in London, or maybe Pavarotti at Charleston SC Spoleto in 1976, or Bela Fleck with Tony Trishka, or.....

How do you choose?

Doug

Saw all the greats, back in the (old-timer )day, but the most memorable for this (then 19) lad was Ike and Tina Turner Revue with the Ike-ettes opening for the Stones. WOW What a show!

Got to see the great B.B. King on his 80th birthday north of Detroit.

As great as the music was his storytelling between sets was just as entertaining. Seemed like the kind of guy you'd see sitting on a porch on a hot summer night, and would want you to come on over to share some tales. Too bad he's gone.

Ah, live music!

Some of my favorites (I can't pick just one!):

My first concert - Three Dog Night at the Boston Garden (the old one). Had a BLAST! I think I was the typical infatuated teen-ager when I saw them. That was also my first ever date with a guy.

Bonnie Raitt - numerous times, the last three at Hampton Beach Casino in NH.

Joe Bonamassa - numerous times in Boston, once at Red Rocks and seeing him again at Red Rocks in August.

CSNY - in 2000 right after Graham Nash was just out of PT from having broken both legs in boating accident. Neil Young absolutely tore the place up. The trains were closed by the time they were done which meant that 40,000+ people were trying to get a cab all at the same time.

Eric Clapton - Early 80's, Boston Garden (the old one). The place absolutely rocked!!

Ry Cooder - a couple of years ago at Tupelo Music Hall in NH. Great show!

Keb' Mo' - LOVE this guy and his music! Seeing him in late June again.

Dead and Co. - numerous times now. I came late to the party 'cause I was raising a kid thru the 80's, 90's and 2000's. I LOVE these guys too.

One of the worst concerts I saw was Allman Brothers sometime in the 90's I think. Greg was about 20 sheets to the wind and one of his kids was doing lead guitar. I was really disappointed. The t-shirt I bought fell apart within a couple years, too.

I'll hush up now.........

Fun Times

Most memorable was one of my first ones back in the mid 70's at the "old" NDSU Fieldhouse seeing Elvin Bishop and REO Speedwagon.
Saw the Doobie Bros. a year later at the "new" NDSU Fieldhouse.
These stand out because I was still in high school, and very impressed hearing these groups live.
Growing up in the middle of nowhere in NoDak doesn't give you a lot of options, unless you wanted to drive to the Twin Cities of MN.

Over the years, I have seen the Doobies a total of 3 other times, and have always enjoyed them. I was also lucky enough to see Johnny Winter 3 times over the years.

My absolute favorite was probably seeing Rush several years ago here at the XCEL Center. It was unbelievable the music they produced.

Also impressed by the Rolling Stones this past winter. The fact that Mick and Keith could still do what they do and still produce a decent performance is unbelievable, IMHO.

As I started to post this, I started remembering all the shows I've seen. It's been quite a few. I don't think there have been any that I could say that I didn't like.

I saw REO many, many times in the early 70’s at the Red Lion Inn in Champaign, Illinois after they started charging a fifty cent cover I did not see them very often.

Ha! I saw them at both the Red Lion and at Chances R in Champaign. Both of those bars used to get all of the up and coming bands of the time.

Reo

Saw them at chances r also, from summer of 71 to summer of 72 I had an apartment on the northeast corner of First and Healy it was almost equidistant to the two bars only a couple of paces different

Funny story...after college, I left the Central Illinois area to start my career. A few years later, I was back in the area visiting family and an old college buddy and I decided to to meet up for a beer at Chances R and talk about the old days. We walked into the place, up to the bar and ordered a beer. As we're sitting and chatting, we realized the guys were dancing with the guys and the girls were dancing with the girls...it had become a gay bar. :brow

Concerts

Attended a Guess Who concert at the Chicago Auditorium in 1970, was great! Also attended the 3 day rock festival at Goose Lake, Michigan in1970. But my favorite was a Bob Seger Concert at Northern Michigan University in the winter of ‘69. Hitch-hiked from Houghton, MI. To Marquette for that one. Ride back was in the back seat of a convertible with no rear window and it was 10 degrees out…..and in.

Three favorites.

Black Sabbath 1983 had to sneak out of the house. LOL
Steppenwolf 1985 and 1986
Bad Company 89

Hard to pick just one...all were back in the '70s

James Gang (Purdue). They were the biggest surprise, night and day from their albums...in a good way.
Stones (Indianapolis)
Led Zeppelin (Kezar Stadium)
Journey (Winterland)
Bad Company (Winterland)
Robin Trower (Winterland)
Yesterday & Today (in their Treasure Island days...small venue on a Navy base)

Most memorable was probably AC/DC warming up for Cheap Trick in Sioux Falls, SD. That must have been 1979 as it was not long before Bon Scott passed away, and only a year from them releasing Back in Black (3rd best selling album in history) with Brian Johnson as the lead singer (who now likes to RV camp off Sarasota, apparently). It was my first big concert.

Dan Fogelberg at Red Rocks was excellent -- then saw him a short time later as Frankie and The Aliens in Denver. He came out with a Strat, a cigarette, holding a beer and announced, we're not going to play any of that mellow ****. They did some excellent blues and rock that night, although I'm sure a few people were disappointed.

Elton John and The Rolling Stones in Minneapolis were both memorable -- the Stones played in the Metrodome and the acoustics were not great -- but it was still amazing.

I've seen Jackson Browne perform a number of times, but the best might have been in Des Moines where he thought he was in the Quad Cities. Or Cedar Rapids. He didn't have to even say that these towns all look the same.

Pat Benatar at the St. Paul Civic Center was also fun -- I think even the young ladies in the crowd screamed a little when she peeled off a skin tight black leather jacket (halter top underneath, of course).

There are so many. I like to think that we may be old, but man, we had some great music in our lifetimes.

Ian Anderson- Jethro Tull 75 rocking years old today!

Saw JT an Boston Garden back in the day. Dynamic!
