Newest Gen car has composite body, not CF, though a lot of parts like hood and deck lid may still be CF.
The transmission is now a transaxle and the wheels are aluminum 18” with a central lug. The Infinity series beta tested the bodies for the last few seasons and can take some banging around.

Thought it was a good show and less attrition than I thought a 1/4 mile flat track would provide. Since heat style races, no mid run pit stops planned and would have been crazy trying to turn into infield at speed!
Seems the transaxle was the demise of a few teams.

The pit stops should be in ten second range now with less lugs and need to index them. Not F1 speed but hey, not F1

They covered the grass with Plywood, then covered in two feet of dirt, gravel, and four inches of asphalt.
NASCAR claims they spent $1 Million to prep.
I’m not familiar with grass that can survive a couple of weeks covered up. Maybe it’s special LA grass

How did they turn the LA Coliseum into a race track?
The crushed base is covered by asphalt, the final layer. The race track and the layers below its surface were concocted this way so that the grass field underneath can stay undisturbed during construction, the race itself and as the layers are disassembled to return the Coliseum back to a football venue.4 days ago.

It’s the lack of sunlight I’m wondering about. Should be interesting.

I will say they are trying hard to reverse the decline in attendance and viewership. Good luck to them. I like riding on DIS now and then so I'm all for their success.

No sunlight, no problem. I had a friend in high school who hid his grass under his dresser and it was still good…. Or so he told me.

When I was growing up in- gasp- North Dakota we frequently got our first snow around Halloween but most of it was gone by Easter. For most of November through March the grass was under inches to feet of snow or snirt, as we called the windblown mixture of snow and dirt. But lo and behold, by May the grass usually needed to be mowed once more.

Grass was probably in its normal state of dormancy fall prepares the grass for.

I'm guessing even grass in SOCAL goes dormant in the winter

    Thumbs up

My takeaway from watching at the stadium last eve.
This 500 will be interesting again!
So many changes to the car itself this year, and in-person they look
Terrific. And their exhaust note is noticeable different, very short exhaust stack that now exits behind the front wheels.
They handle well, that was evident. What the change to rack & pinion steering has in that, is to be determined.
The single lug nut adaptation will change pit stops and place more importance on the driver; good.
I’ll take any Ford Sunday over the others…

From the Xfinity race last night-

A tribute to all involved making a wreck like this survivable.

Almost time for the Daytona 500

Austin Dillon had the same thing happen to him several years ago. Also walked away!
