For no other reason than to tell a good story, here's what happened 3 years ago. We left Mississippi headed to Texas early on Thanksgiving morning, eight of us total. Since i was leading this bunch i had done some research and found a truckstop in Greenwood LA that had an advertised Thanksgiving day dinner special, turkey with all the trimmings! Yum. We could have our thanksgiving dinner on the road! I had it figured to do the 400 miles and be there about 1 PM. I kept telling everyone to hold up on stopping to eat, the dinner was coming up in a few more miles. We made our ETA right on time and pulled in the truckstop pretty darn hungry and ready for our feast. We all walked in past the sign advertising the dinner special and got seated. The waitress came and we ordered eight thanksgiving dinners. We were then told they were out of turkey. You're out of turkey?? It almost didn't register what she was saying. It's 1 PM on thanksgiving, you have a turkey dinner advertised and you are out of turkey!!! How bad a manager do you have to be to run out of turkey at 1 PM on thanksgiving? We all sat there in silence and ate our ham and dressing while everyone glared at me. They will be telling that story long after i am gone i am pretty sure.
