I bought a 1991 K 75 RT in Late august of this year . I'm wondering how much it would have sold for when new.. With all the saddlebags , fairing ,and windshield ,and being a BMW ,I think it should have been priced similar or more than an equivalent Harley . My neighbor swears his brother bought one for $ 7,000 when new back in 1991.
BTW I love this bike !! Only 87,000 km's . 2000_0118_211101_001.JPG

From what I've been able to find, list price in '91 was in the neighborhood of $10-11,000 (16,700DM).

The receipt shows we paid $8,870 for our 1991 K75S bikes with ABS.
ABS was a $1,000 option.
We also got bag mounts, luggage rack, heated grips, BMW tank bag, accessory plug and labor.
I would think the RT would have been $1,000 more.

Interesting that it would be ~$18,021 in 2021's dollars. A 20220 new base RT is $19,695... heck of a deal! :)

Without ABS our K75Ss would have been $7,870 with the options I listed and labor.
Try finding a base model RT at any dealer :)

My '86 K75T was half that! :) And it only lasted 370,000 miles with no engine or transmission repairs.

Did you ask for your money back? Actually, I think these numbers show one of the reasons the K75 was not upgraded to a four-valve design along with the K100's - price. Lopping of one of four cylinders doesn't cut production costs by 25% and I think a lot of people saw the K100s as a better value.

I had no idea those K bikes were that much new.
I got my 1990 K75 RT for $2800 with 10 K miles on it in 2011.
I'm a cheap bastard I'll admit
I have never bought anything high dollar new, My Irish background coming out.
I bought that Kawasaki below from a dealer with 11K on it for $6200 out the door in 2018, in pristine condition, its not quite that way now,BTW

I think some of this can be explained by looking at the US dollar to Mark historical conversion rate. In 1970 it was $1:3.65DB but from 1990 through 1996 it was about $1:1.62DM on average. You can do the math, but that means that without taking into inflation in to consideration, just the weakening of the purchasing power of the US dollar would make a 1990's BMW about 2.25 times more expensive in the US than in 1970.
