New extended warranty- direct from BMW

4 Years for 1250GSA, paid $1320 plus tax

Are/did they require an inspection? Obviously, coverage duration allowed goes down dramatically, as product's price ramp's up quickly with vehicle age. My quote was $1,660.00 for two years coverage on a '17 RT with less than 8,000 miles. And that's if it passes their required inspection.

Skimming the posts again, I can't tell if this is an "exclusionary" [they tell you what is not covered], stated component [they tell you what IS covered] extended new bike warranty [everything is covered]. Other than extended warranty (total!) the best is exclusionary. Judging by the first post it LOOKS like they tell you what IS covered. The one where they tell you what's excluded is the better. (Unless they just say "everything" is covered.

For reference, I believe Suzuki offers up to 5 additional years (original is only 1 year) for a little over $600.

https://www.suzukisepdirect.com/

Kia’s no cost factory warranty is still 10 years or 100,000 miles. They have replaced LOTS of engines.

I wished i had purchased an extended warranty when the front ESA shock started leaking on the GS ...

I was more musing than shopping. I do regular dealer maintenance (at Max) on my 2016RT. The bike has been solid and reliable (famous last words). Given how I ride, the diminishing number of annual miles (I have 4 bikes and have cut back some on heavy mileage- that's another story) and I'm willing to deal with issues as/if they arise- so I don't think I'm a good candidate for this product. It looks like about 1600-2000 per year for my bikes age/mileage (about 25k). Now if it included tires and service and wear items...I'd be all over it!

You know there are those that see the worth in extended warranties and those that don't and no amount of discussion is going to change the minds of either group so why bother trying?

For me if I thought I needed an expensive extended warranty to sleep better at night I would likely find another bike.

I asked Engle Motors in Kansas City about the new Extended Warranty.

Here is the pricing for additional years on your R1250 RS:
Unlimited mileage

2 YR – $1030
3 YR – $1200
4 YR – $1320

Yes, this is a transferrable warranty to an individual (not a dealer….then you would cancel it) at no cost.
Here is verbiage in the contact about towing.
E. Towing Service: In the event of a mechanical breakdown, a collision or road hazard event, your vehicle will be transported (at no cost) to the nearest authorized BMW Motorrad Dealer. However, you may request for your vehicle to be taken to your servicing BMW Motorrad Dealer as long as it is within 50 additional miles or less of the “nearest” authorized BMW Motorrad Dealer. Any additional mileage charges beyond this limit will be your responsibility. If the breakdown occurs after normal business hours and the designated authorized BMW Motorrad Dealer cannot accept after-hours deliveries, your vehicle will be transported to a secure storage location and delivered on the next business day. If you request that the vehicle be taken to a location other than an authorized BMW Motorrad Dealer, the entire expense will be your responsibility

The only extended warranty I can remember buying was for our first computer in 2000.
I'm going to consider the extended warranty for the bikes when we get closer to the end of the normal warranty.

I'm in the process of buying a '21 R1250 GS Adv BMW Demo Fleet Unit with 56 miles.

The first price quoted for the BMW Motorrad 48 month Unlimited Mileage "Extended Service Contract" was $1360, we arrived at a mutually agreeable figure.

I've asked for a copy of the contract to review. I can't locate a copy to review online. Does anyone have a link or can they post a copy of what they have received if a ESC was purchased.

I have a PDF File of the Sample ESC Contract.

If anyone is interested in reviewing a copy of it please PM me your email address and I will forward a copy to you.

I see some provisions in this agreement that lead me to believe that "Owner Performed Maintenance" will preclude payment of a claim/repair in the future.

I have no experience with the BMW extended warranty.

However, I do have experience with lots of BMW warranty work.

When I bought my R1100RS, new, its warranty was 3 years unlimited mileage. I think it was the last year in which BMW offered unlimited mileage. (I used to know a guy who logged something like 90K on his airhead in those three years of warranty.)

In the three years and about 45K miles on my bike, it had a huge amount of warranty work. It involved everything from a new thumb switch to a new transmission, and included a rebuilt engine. I used to have a list of everything that was done to that bike, but I don't know where it is now.

I totally would have wanted an extended warranty for that bike. Moreover, I bet I would have gotten my money back several times over, had I bought one. When the bike went out of warranty and the next thing went wrong, I gave up and got the K12.

My K12 has been far more reliable. It has had its issues, including a new driveshaft, but nothing like that first year oilhead.

I did have one car, for which I purchased an extended warranty, and ended up having about five times as much warranty work as the policy cost. My next car had none of significance.

One never knows what life may bring you. One person may buy an extended warranty, and never use it. Another person may make good use of it. Of course, how much you can afford can also have an influence on what choice you make.

Hello,

Has anyone had their TPM sensors replaced under the Platinum BMW Motorrad ESC plan yet? My dealer is telling me it's not covered because it's basically a battery. :banghead

Thanks - Doug
