    That's the number I saved.
I did not write down the number for Des Moines.
Seems like it was a little under 5,000. Anyone remember?

    Des Moines was 4580.

The three highest that I have are:

    2006 -- Essex Juntion Vermont -- 9200
    2009 -- Johnson City, Tennessee -- 8972
    2005 -- Lima, Ohio -- 8298

The highest one that is in the west is 2001 Redmond, Oregon, at 6677. That is among the top eight so far. Pretty good for west coaster!!

I'm actually pretty intrigued to see the variation. If someone with archival of last 25 years can send me location + count, I'd like to do some mapping of this. Someone at the rally complained to me that it seems there are never any southern rallies..they acknowledged the heat but added that a lot of people live in Southern California, Texas, florida so why so many "north rallies"?

I'd like to produce a map that plots out rally locations then an additional filter for attendance. it won't take economic recessions into account but it would, through data, give us an idea what areas have never seen a rally and which areas had the most attendance purely just something of a curiosity .

...maybe I can get data from the MOA to combine that with a heat map of where our members are physically located?

Just me being curious, nothing official.

    I.
Except for the Texas rally they were always in July. Having a rally in a southern state mid July would be a bad idea.
I'm glad they finally gave up on July rallies and moved to June.

The weather for the Texas rally in June was pleasant if you don't count the flooding before the rally

If I remember right this was a mid week rally, Tues, Wed, Thu.
A mid week rally makes sense to me when I was working. Three days to ride to the rally, three days at the rally and threes days to ride home.
Nine day trip and only use five vacation days.

    COVID is still a factor

Just going to chime in here:

COVID is still a factor for many people.
Borders were closed - the nearest being Canada.
We had seminar presenters and vendors who couldn't get here even if they tried.

Comparing this year's rally to ANY other rally is impossible.
    That's all I got.

I'm sure that's a factor, Sue. But if you look at past rallies to the general region, specifically Salt Lake City and Billings, the number of attendees is sort of in the same ballpark. Could the numbers been greater this year? One would hope that people were anxious to get out and about and decided to wait another year. No doubt next year will be better given that the rally is more centrally located.

It would be interesting to know the average age of club members that attended each year.

You're probably thinking of this, but you should normalize the number of attendees each year by the club membership at the time. Not sure we can account for attendees who were non-members, but 425 attending in 1973 is not going to plot very well on its own!!
