Mechanic / Long Island NY suggestions please!

Hi,
I'm looking for a mechanic in the Long Island, NY area. Does anyone have recommendations?. Mid-Island, South or North Forks. I've tried mechanics in NYC area with mixed results. The last work was done at Motorcycle Works in Brooklyn. No complaints with the work, but I would prefer a mechanic on L.I. and less drama.

My (not unreasonable) requirements of a mechanic are:
- Skilled mechanic with experience working on airheads. I have a 77 R100RS
- Satisfied customers
- No drama
- Long Island, NY area

I did find in an earlier thread mentioning Chris Capobianco as a mechanic in LI. I think I tried contacting him a while back but he was no longer taking on new projects.

Any recommendations would be fantastic!!!

I got the following suggestions from a friend that lives on Long Island. One is Second Wind Cycles. Good but busy...be sure and mention the MOA as a reference. As for an R100RS, the recommendation would be to check out Clay at Wheaton Motor Werks. He's better suited to work on Airheads. I'm sure you can google these and find the websites.

I just noticed there are some other suggestions in the Similar Threads pane at the bottom of the screen.

Thanks. The Wheaton Motor Werks looks great, but PA is really far from me. All the other threads direct to the same guy who is no longer in business. Seems like Long Island NY is a wasteland for good BMW mechanics

Wasteland

The sad news for us airhead owners is the wasteland extends to most of the country. A good number of BMW dealerships won't or are not interested in working on airheads. Many of the younger mechanics are not familiar with airheads as there is no training from BMW on airheads.

My friend's shop is just too far from you to be practical for you.

My understanding is Max BMW has a pick up and delivery system in place. I don't know the exact details as I have no need for it. We don't have a BMW dealership within a few hundred miles of us so many of the "newer" bikes have taken advantage of Max's system to have work done. They advertise a Classic repair shop, again, I have not used them for service but I do buy a lot of parts from them. My local airhead shop is one of their biggest airhead parts customer. They have always been decent to me on the phone or email regarding parts transactions. I have asked a couple of questions about repairs and troubleshooting and have gotten good replies and interaction. It would lead me to perhaps use them for service and to take advantage of the delivery system if I ever need a mechanic.

I had MaxBMW (Troy, NY) do a lot of work on my R80ST over the winter.

I feel very fortunate to have them less than an hour away.

Thanks for the responses. I was also thinking about trying Max BMW in CT. It's not close, but with their pick up and delivery it may be an option.

Quick update. I ended up going to a local mechanic in East Hampton NY - Brennan Motor Sports. It's a one man shop and Matt the owner is a capable bike mechanic who has some experience on Air-heads. For now it's fork seals and throttle assembly work and he's more than capable.
