2001 R1100R Broken weld at muffler bracket

My R1100R muffler bracket broke off at the weld and needs repair. Received some advice and know i could try JB weld and if that doesn’t work then it would need to be welded and isn’t a major job. I called the local dealer and they don’t do any type of welding. So, I reached out to a few local MC mechanics and no one seems to be eager or able to weld the bracket back onto the frame. Anyone experienced this type of issue and if so is there an alternative solution to welding.... like a bracket that will attach to the frame without welding?

Looks like there are a lot of welding shops in your area- give one a call. I don’t think this is a JB fix.
Residual JB will make a real weld more difficult.

A few years ago, my Staintune muffler cracked, at the inlet pipe, to the actual muffler. Aside from being surprised, as Staintunes seem to last forever, I found a welding shop that specialized in stainless metal fabrication. Didnít take long, and IIRC, was about $40.

Question: Is the break on the exhaust system? Or is the break on the bike frame?

It matters because welding the exhaust system removed from the bike is one thing but welding on the bike frame is quite another because of the care required to not damage any of the bike's electronic components.

Paul, the break occurred on the bracket which was part of the frame. A portion of the bracket is still connected to the frame.

Looks like 2 choices, either have a welder with a portable come to you to TIG weld it or go to a shop where they can do this method. In either case I would have the harness disconnected from your CPU and the battery disconnected. If it was me I would pull the CPU from the bike. The computer processor is located in front of the ABS brake unit located under the tank on the top tube, has a large connector on it.

Unplug both the Motronic and the ABS pump multipin connectors.
Ground the frame as close to the weld area as possible
This will likely require removing the paint from that spot.

You might try to see if there is an aircraft welder specialist in your area that can do it with a gas weld rig. There were a lot of gals during and after WW2 that did magnificent work.

Charlotte is absolutely going to have welders that can do this. As mentioned, unplug the computers first.

Appreciate all the information provided. I went with JB Weld and a metal strap which was used to secure the broken off portion of the bracket by pulling it back towards the tubular frame. So far everything is holding up fine.
